Works by contemporary painter and printmaker Jason Greig wield a devilish charm. Shadowy spectral beings, visibly haunted by the dark nature of human behaviour, inhabit dystopian worlds. Highly detailed portraits of celestial humanoids, and eerily familiar punk rock icons – who have inspired Greig’s musicianship – contrast flat, vibrantly coloured backgrounds.
Supernatural themes and dark imagery divulges the artist’s vehemence for Gothic art, and heavy metal music, particularly acknowledging his respect for the work of Symbolist artist Odilon Redon created during the “black era”.
